On Jan. 31, a 70,000-strong force of North Vietnamese and Viet Cong soldiers launched a simultaneous attack against more than 100 military and civilian targets, known as the Tet Offensive. One such target was Hue, the cultural and religious center of Vietnam, of high strategic value to the US.
