If the pitch is at your left knee or even 1-2 baseballs outside of it, you should be able to stay square to the pitch and keep your mitt horizontal (depending on the height of the pitch). Once it gets outside your body frame, you’ll want to quarter turn the mitt and go vertical so you don’t get thumbed and/or drop the pitch. • We discuss this in detail at all of my events.
