Hemlock Woolly Adelgid: The Hemlock Woolly Adelgid has been discovered in the Adirondacks for the first time. A small infestation was found on two Hemlock trees on forest preserve lands near Prospect Mountain in the Town of Lake George. The Department of Environmental Conservation is asking hikers and campers in the Adirondacks to report any sightings of the white, woolly fuzz the insects leave on the underside of Hemlock branches.
