During a CBS Mornings interview, Michelle Miller told me she loved that I call myself brilliant. Here’s why I do: because I’m not guaranteed the world will say it back. I want Black and Brown children — especially those from marginalized communities — to hear something different than “misbehaving,” “troubled,” or “at risk.” I want them to hear brilliant. Not as a label they’re handed, but as something they can work toward and grow into. Words become inner voices. And inner voices shape lives. #P
