New rounds of severe thunderstorms and life-threatening, potentially catastrophic, flooding risks are brewing in the central and eastern United States Tuesday, putting more than 50 million people at risk this week.

At least one person has died in southwest Oklahoma after flash flooding hit the region, with authorities warning people to stay off the roads as severe weather warnings continue.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued by the National Weather Service in Norman at 06:11 a.m. on Tuesday. This warning applies to Canadian, Cleveland, Grady, McClain and Oklahoma counties. Meteorologists warn of winds as strong as 70 mph.

Monday's severe weather moving through Minnesota created dangerous conditions. According to the National Weather Service, a tornado was observed near Fairmont, Minnesota on Monday afternoon. The federal agency says it also received "multiple tornado reports" near Winnebago in Faribault County.

The upper Midwest braced Monday for severe thunderstorms with the potential for strong tornadoes. The National Weather Service said the highest risks — a 4 on a scale of 1 to 5 — were in portions of southern Minnesota,

A south breeze remains in place with highs in the mid to upper 80s. Rain is not expected, but it's possible that a light sprinkle could move through.
