Prabowo Subianto was inaugurated Sunday as the eighth president of the world’s most populous Muslim-majority nation, completing his journey from an ex-general accused of rights abuses during the dark days of Indonesia’s military dictatorship to the presidential palace.

In succeeding Joko Widodo to the presidency, Prabowo is expected to take a more hands-on and personal approach to major policy areas.

Indonesia's Prabowo Subianto, 73, was inaugurated as President with Gibran Rakabuming, son of former President Widodo, as Vice President. The event was attended by dignitaries from 33 countries, highlighting the 75-year diplomatic relationship with India.
