Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde visited Delhi on Thursday to meet Amit Shah to discuss the formation of the next government in the state. His deputies in the outgoing state cabinet – Devendra Fadnavis (BJP) and Ajit Pawar (NCP) - also met the senior BJP leader.

Shinde is headed for his village in Satara and the meeting is likely to be held after his return, as per the reports. The sudden development has sparked speculation that the Shiv Sena chief is unhappy about the government formation talks.

A meeting of Mahayuti leaders to finalise Maharashtra’s government formation was called off on Friday after caretaker Chief Minister Eknath Shinde unexpectedly left for his village in Satara district.

Despite the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance securing a massive victory, winning 230 seats in the 288-member assembly, consensus has eluded the ruling combine's leaders so far on who should be the next CM. Shinde's supporters have been saying that he should continue as CM as the landslide win was achieved under his leadership.

However, Shinde had called these "good and positive" before his sudden departure stalled further talks. Earlier, key leaders from the ruling Mahayuti alliance met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi.

Eknath Shinde who met Amit Shah and JP Nadda along with Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar on Thursday night said that the meeting was 'good and positive'.
