San Diego has several events to celebrate Juneteenth, which commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Texas learned they had been freed — two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.

Juneteenth is right around the corner -- and San Diego is chock-full of events and ways to celebrate and honor the holiday.

Juneteenth, a holiday that was mostly celebrated by Black families in the South, commemorates the end of slavery in the United States on June 19, 1865.
