IMD DG Mrutunjay Mohapatra said that the entire eastern coast from Puri in Odisha and Sagar Island in the West Bengal coast is likely to be impacted by the impending cyclone Dana.

The deep depression in the east-central Bay of Bengal intensified into cyclonic storm Dana at around 5.30 am on Wednesday, and is centred at around 560 km from Odisha's Paradip and 630 km from Sagar Island,

It is expected to cross the northern Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island during the night of October 24 and the morning of October 25 as a severe cyclonic storm, with wind speeds reaching 100-110 km/h.

Rescue teams, including personnel from the NDRF have reached both the states and educational institutions have been shut, as Cyclone Dana will likely make landfall in Odisha's Puri and Bengal's Sagar Island on Thursday evening.

As Odisha and West Bengal are bracing for a severe cyclonic storm, governments of both states have decided to evacuate people and close educational institutions in vulnerable areas

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) personnel are working in coordination with the local administration and disaster management authorities in West Bengal and Odisha

Odisha Minister Suresh Pujari said apart from 800 cyclone shelters, an additional 500 temporary shelters have been made ready including schools and colleges.
