Penn State’s staff decided Warren was the right fit to snap the ball as a decoy center. Despite the novelty of the play, Warren didn’t get much separation. USC corner Jaylin Smith ran with Warren and was in position to knock the pass away, but Warren contorted his body to make the catch on the defender’s shoulder while falling to the ground.

The senior set both program and FBS records against USC, a week after setting the Nittany Lions record for most TDs by a tight end. Not bad for a former three-star quarterback recruit.

There is little that Tyler Warren can’t do on the football field. The Penn State tight end is a former high school quarterback, who lines up as the signal caller on occasion — sometimes to run, sometimes to throw a pass.
