Rescuers in Chile are racing to find the last worker trapped in the world's largest underground copper mine after an earthquake on Thursday. The state-owned Codelco company said on Sunday that five workers were now known to have died since the collapse of its El Teniente mine, about 70km (43 miles) south-east of the capital Santiago.

One of the five workers trapped in a Chilean copper mine has been found dead, the mining company said Saturday, bringing the death toll from Thursday’s collapse to two.

Aquiles Cubillos, the lead prosecutor in Chile’s O’Higgins region, said the body of Moises Pavez, the last miner to remain missing, was found at 3.30pm local time by rescue teams. They had drilled through dozens of yards of rock to reach the stranded workers.
