Carlos Alcaraz had to fight his way out of a second-set slump on Sunday (Monday in Manila) to escape with a 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 victory over Damir Dzumhur in his opening match at the ATP-WTA Cincinnati Open.

Following Gauff on the P&G Center Court was the men’s No. 2 seed, Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard looked in need of an island, but not a loving one, after he struggled with 33-year-old Bosnian veteran Damir Dzumhur. While Gauff was chirping away in press, Dzumhur was taking the second set from Alcaraz, who did, finally, win 6-1, 2-6, 6-3.
