Space Marine 2 is still going strong on Steam and 4.5 million players later the sci-fi shooter is finally getting its first new operation since launch. Patch 4.0 adds a new multiplayer mission on the planet Kadaku called Termination as well as some notable changes to the underlying gameplay.

It’s been a little over one month since Saber Interactive and Focus Entertainment put out Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, but the game has had no trouble keeping the attention of its fans. The developers have announced that Space Marine 2’s player count has expanded to 4.5 million since its launch, more than doubling its launch weekend numbers.

Space Marine 2 update 1.004 is now live and this is for Patch 4.0 that adds the new Termination operation, new difficulty mode and more.

These features are quite similar to those of Helldivers 2, which raises suspicions about it being too similar to Space Marine 2. The similarity between the two games stems from both games sharing similar key elements of the third-person shooter genre, set in a dark, futuristic, military sci-fi universe.

Space Marine 2 is such a mega-successful hit that the sequel has helped boost its publisher's revenues by over 1200% year-over-year.

Space Marine 2 doesn’t have a massive selection of mods just yet, but you can already find about fifty or so of them over on NexusMods, with many more undoubtedly coming in the following weeks and months.

Space Marine 2's Steam page is being bombarded with negative reviews several nerfs, with some fans calling the game Helldivers 2.0.
