At face value, the Pittsburgh Steelers benching Justin Fields for Russell Wilson doesn’t make much sense. While Fields hasn’t played at all All-Pro-caliber level as a quarterback, Pittsburgh is currently tied for first place in the AFC North and is a firm playoff contender.

Ahead of the 2024 season, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin named Wilson QB1 for the year, but he has yet to make his season debut as he's been dealing with a calf injury. In the meantime, Fields led the Steelers to a 4–2 start, surpassing many people's expectations for him.

Wilson signed with the Steelers in March, but he injured his calf in training camp, which is why he hasn't played yet this year. With the Steelers playing the Jets on Sunday night, we could see Wilson making his 2024 debut and Davante Adams making his debut with the Jets.
