If you still haven’t made a trip to the DMV for your REAL ID, time is running out. Your domestic air travel could be delayed if you don’t have an accepted form of identification at TSA checkpoints next week.

If you're planning to board a plane on or after May 7, 2025, you'll need a Real ID to get through airport security. That deadline is now official and TSA has confirmed there won't be any more extensions.

Twenty years in the making, the 2005 REAL ID Act is finally going into effect on May 7. The act, passed amid other increasingly tight security measures following 9/11, established that Americans would need identification that met "minimum security standards for state-issued driver's licenses and identification cards.
