Cyclone Dana is rapidly approaching the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal, with severe weather expected. Authorities are on high alert, implementing precautionary measures to ensure the safety of residents as heavy rains and winds are forecasted.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a low-pressure area has been created in the east-central Bay of Bengal. This would eventually move northwestward and is expected to highly intensify into a possibly severe cyclone storm by October 23,

Cyclone Dana is likely to make landfall with a wind speed of 100-120 km per hour between Thursday night and Friday morning, causing extremely heavy rain in seven coastal districts.

The depression will further intensify into a cyclonic storm by October 23 and cross north Odisha and southern West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island in the early morning hours of October 25 as a severe cyclonic storm.

The movement of trains has also been impacted by Cyclone Dana, leading to the cancellation of 198 trains passing through or originating from Odisa by the East Coast Railways
