Indian GrandMaster D. Gukesh forced a draw with black pieces against China’s Ding Liren in game four of the World Chess Championship in Singapore on Friday.

Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh, the youngest player ever to qualify for the World Chess Championship, held defending champion Ding Liren to a draw in their fourth-round encounter in Singapore on Friday.

Dign Liren is playing with white pieces in game 4 after Gukesh secured a confidence-boosting victory in Game 3 right before the first rest day.

The World Chess Championship match between D. Gukesh and Ding Liren will consist of 14 games. The first player to score 7.5 points will be crowned the World Champion. If the match ends in a tie after all 14 games, a tiebreak will be held the following day to determine the winner.

Ding Liren appeared emotionally and physically exhausted after winning the Chess World Championship last year. He sees himself as an underdog defending the title at the upcoming tournament.

The 18-year-old triumphed in the third game of the series on Wednesday, drawing level after his opening-round loss.

With 40 moves to make in the first 120 allotted minutes without any increment, the complicated middle game had the desired impact on Liren and Gukesh was relentless in finding out some difficult yet perfect moves to increase the pressure.
