As of 5 a.m., the center of Hurricane Erin was located about 450 miles east of Brevard County. Erin weakened slightly overnight but remains a Category 2 storm with maximum sustained winds of 100 mph.

Erin’s strength has fluctuated significantly over the past week, but it remains a powerful Category 2 hurricane.

Hurricane Erin weakened to a Category 3 hurricane during the early hours of Aug. 19 as it moves closer to the East Coast, according to the National Hurricane Center.
