In Ventura County, one person died in a July 3 house fire after fireworks exploded in the garage in the 1600 block of Edmund Street, the Simi Valley Police Department reported. The fire erupted in the garage and spread to the attic and main areas of the home about 40 miles northwest of Los Angeles, officials said.

Three people were killed in separate fireworks-related incidents in Southern California over the Independence Day weekend.
