The new Code of Conduct by the EU aims to improve how social media platforms deal with content that violates hate speech laws in the EU countries as well as other countries

The European Union (EU) has updated its code of conduct on online hate speech, requiring social media platforms like Meta’s Facebook, Elon Musk’s X, and Google’s YouTube to step up efforts to tackle harmful content.

Meta's Facebook, Elon Musk's X, Google's YouTube and other tech companies have agreed to do more to tackle online hate speech under an updated code of conduct that will now be integrated into EU tech rules, the European Commission said on Monday.

Bluesky also noted that developers are working on alternatives for TikTok using the AT Protocol, or Authenticated Transfer Protocol, the decentralized protocol behind the social media service. These include upcoming apps such as Tik.Blue, Skylight.Social and Bluescreen.Blue.

TikTok went dark Saturday night ahead of a nationwide ban. It came back online about 12 hours later after President Donald Trump announced a 75-day delay on the ban. During that time, TikTok needs to find a non-China-based owner to buy it or face a permanent shutdown in the U.S.
