Nicholas Rossi - the American who fought extradition from Scotland, claiming to be the victim of mistaken identity - has admitted for the first time that he changed his name. Giving evidence at a bail hearing in one of two separate rape cases he faces in Utah, Rossi denied fleeing to the UK in 2017 to escape arrest.

On Wednesday, Rossi confirmed he was born with the name Nicholas Alahverdian in a hearing to determine bail in one of the charges of rape. He claimed he used the alias Arthur Knight after receiving “credible threats”. Prosecutors say Rossi, 37, raped a 26-year-old woman in Salt Lake County in 2008.
