Kilauea last erupted in September with a series of short eruptions in a remote area of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Hours later, a third phase of eruptions began in the Nāpau Crater. In June, Kīlauea erupted in an area that had not seen lava since 1974.

Lava is bubbling through the crust of one of the world’s most active volcanoes, which is Kilauea, on Hawaii’s Big Island.
