Ten confirmed deaths and more than 9,000 structures have been damaged or destroyed and more than 150,000 people remain under mandatory evacuation orders. Law enforcement sources told The Times that it’s likely many of the small fires will turn out to have been the work of arson.

Multiple wildfires, including the Palisades Fire and Eaton Fire, are raging across Southern California Friday, leaving at least 10 dead and burning more than 10,000 homes across 27,000 acres, officials say.

In the hilly areas east and north of downtown off Sunset Boulevard, many homes were almost completely destroyed by the Palisades fire.

Fierce winds fueled new fires and made it harder to contain the largest blazes, which have destroyed whole neighborhoods and have become some of the most devastating in California’s history.

The Sunset and Kennith fires follow other blazes in the L.A. area, including the Palisades and Eaton fires, that have displaced tens of thousands.

Two Los Angeles County wildfires which tore through more than 34,000 acres in four days, killing at least 10 people and destroying more than 10,000 structures, are now among the 20 most destructive fires recorded in the state of California.
