Ubisoft has confirmed it is working on a new 'Rayman' game. The platforming icon - which hasn't received his own title from the studio since 2015.

Ubisoft's statement follows a report earlier today saying that the Lost Crown team had been shifted to work on Beyond Good and Evil 2, the next Ghost Recon, and an unannounced Rayman remake. Creator Michel Ancel was also reported to be involved, which Ubisoft subsequently confirmed.

The original Rayman is the game that put Ubisoft on the map. It’s been over a decade since the last installment in the colorful platformer franchise, but the French publisher is currently in the “early stages” of exploring what will come next for the series’ titular limbless hero.

According to Insider Gaming, around a "dozen" members have been moved over to work on an unannounced Rayman remake. Controversially, the remake will be consulted by Michel Ancel, who left the gaming industry after allegations of "toxic leadership" in 2020.

In the wake of rumors that Ubisoft had disbanded the team behind Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, another report suggested that one of the new projects those developers have been shuffled onto is a Rayman revival.

Ubisoft has confirmed to Eurogamer a new Rayman project is currently in the "exploration phase" at its Montpelier and Milan studios, following recent online reports that work has begun on an unannounced Rayman remake.
