The ninth named tropical storm of the 2022 Atlantic hurricane season has formed across the central Caribbean Sea, and is forecast to turn into a hurricane before hitting Florida. If it does, it will be the first major hurricane to impact the state since 2018.
A tropical wave set to move off the west coast of Africa on Friday could develop into a tropical depression when it nears the West Indies later next week, the National Hurricane Center said in a morning update. The agency said it expects the wave to interact with another disturbance over the eastern tropical Atlantic before moving west.
