Raul Malo, the leader of the country band The Mavericks and one of the most recognizable voices in roots music, died Monday night, according to a representative of the band.

Raul Malo, beloved frontman of The Mavericks and called “El Maestro,” passed away at 60 following a courageous cancer battle.
