Lionizing Columbus celebrates the setting of the colonizer’s moral compass with European Christian supremacy as due north.

The longstanding event begins at 9 a.m. with a mass at The Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii, at 1244 Lexington Ave.

While Indigenous Peoples' Day is not recognized as a federal holiday, it is considered a holiday in certain cities and states. Columbus Day remains a federal holiday, though it is "one of the most inconsistently celebrated" in the U.S., according to the Pew Research Center.

Rulli's new bill would both reaffirm Columbus Day as a federal holiday and punish cities and states that replaced the celebration of it with Indigenous Peoples Day. "We are not going to allow any American municipality to think that they have power over the federal government," he said.
