Family identifies victims, truck driver charged in fiery crash on I-85 in Jackson County
An eighth body was found in a fiery Georgia highway crash between a semitrailer and van, Deputy Jackson County Coroner Dean Stringer said Tuesday.
ATLANTA, Ga. ( WANF /Gray News) - A truck driver has been charged in a crash on I-85 that killed eight people, including five children. The victims were killed Monday afternoon when a semitrailer struck their van, and it burst into flames, according to law enforcement.
Seven people died after a semi-trailer crashed into a van on Interstate 85 in Jackson County at around 4:15 p.m on Monday, Oct. 13. The accident caused the van to burst into flames and led to four other vehicles crashing in a 'chain reaction.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the six-vehicle collision happened near mile marker 147, just south of the Commerce Outlets in Jackson County. Troopers say a tractor-trailer following too closely struck the rear of a Dodge van, causing it to catch fire. All seven people inside the van were killed.
Hundreds of people in Atlanta and Fulton County are arrested for driving while their license is suspended or revoked every year. Despite a first offense being considered a misdemeanor, a conviction can lead to hundreds of dollars in fines and between two days and 12 months in jail.
