“Saturday Night Live” brings back all-stars Fey, Poehler, Meyers for “Weekend Update” joke-off
After a Trump Cabinet-spoofing cold open shocked the live studio audience via the return of Tina Fey, Poehler revealed she had even more pull while divebombing into Colin Jost and Michael Che ‘s “Weekend Update” segment. Poehler, who once sat behind the “Update” newsdesk, criticized a weak punchline from Jost and called for a “joke-off.”
During Weekend Update, Poehler came out alongside Fey and Seth Meyers -- all three of which used to host the mid-show news sketch -- to compete in a "joke-off" with current hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che. They split into two teams, going back and forth to buzz in with jokes about the record-setting 13-pound baby born in a Tennessee hospital.
"I'm taking this cushion cause Taylor Swift sat on it," this weekend's "SNL" host adds as she leaves the NBC stage.
The "Sally, When the Wine Runs Out" singer/songwriter will make his Saturday Night Live debut this weekend alongside the former castmember.
Poehler joined the Saturday Night Live cast in 2001 alongside her future “Weekend Update” co-host Seth Meyers, having been recruited by longtime friend Tina Fey. She departed the show in 2008 after giving birth to her first child before going on to star as Leslie Knope in Parks and Recreation.
