Venus Williams is back on the professional tennis tour at age 45 and will be returning to the U.S. Open next week for her first Grand Slam competition in two years.

Two-time former champion Venus Williams has been handed a wild card into this month’s US Open at the age of 45. The seven-time grand slam winner made a surprise comeback to tennis earlier this summer after more than a year out of the sport.

With that win, Williams became the oldest player to win a singles match on the WTA Tour since Martina Navratilova won in the first round of Wimbledon in 2004 aged 47. However, her bid for her first winning streak since 2019 ended with a 6-2, 6-2 loss to 24th-ranked Magdalena Frech in the next round at the DC Open.
