BURKBURNETT, Texas — A family of strong tornadoes tore through areas south of Killeen, Texas, on Thursday, leading to swaths of destruction — all on a day where no tornadoes were predicted to occur.

The highest chance of severe weather will be across North Texas, but San Antonio storm chances will increase by the end of the week.

A tornado was confirmed near Briggs, Texas, as the National Weather Service (NWS) issued warnings for Burnet County during severe weather across central Texas on Thursday, May 1. Chad Casey captured timelapse footage along Highway 183 showing what he described as a “tall” tornado.

At least two people were reported to have died as heavy rains soaked the region. More thunderstorms were expected on Thursday.
