After years of rumors suggesting it was in the works, a remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion appears to be closer to releasing than ever, with some sources suggesting it could come as early as 2025.

A former Virtuos employee has confirmed the existence of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remake and revealed improvements to gameplay.

It makes perfect sense for Microsoft and Bethesda to put out an Elder Scrolls remake at the moment. Aside from remakes in general being in vogue, The Elder Scrolls 6 is seemingly still years away, so a remake is a good way to maintain interest in the series in the interim.

Over on LinkedIn, a member of the Shanghai team at development company Virtuos has listed an "unannounced [Unreal Engine 5] PS5/XSX/PC remake" among their experience. The reason this is being equated to the Oblivion rumour is that it was alleged that the remake would indeed be making use of Unreal Engine 5.
