The winning margin exceeded 1 lakh votes in 16 seats, all won by the Mahayuti, with its highest margin recorded in Shirpur at 1.46 lakh by the BJP. The ruling alliance’s margins dipped below 10,000 in just 44 seats, and below 5,000 in 24 seats. Its lowest winning margin came in Belapur, where the BJP won by just 372 votes.

Leaders from both alliances, Mahayutiand MVA, are claiming the chief minister’s chair, exposing internal discord.

PUNE: MVA's confidence about forming govt in Maharashtra in the run-up to the assembly polls was crushed by the Mahayuti juggernaut, with the opposition alliance candidates finishing third in 29 of the 288 seats it contested.

The victories of rebel candidates came in Junnar and Chandgad, where the Mahayuti had fielded contestants of the Ajit Pawar-led NCP.

The voting for the Maharashtra polls was held on November 20 and the results will be declared today, November 23.
