Hurricane Erin's track is forecast to stay offshore, but the New York City area and Jersey Shore may still get some impact.

Beaches along the New Jersey coast and in Delaware were closed Tuesday as the powerful storm churned in the Atlantic. New York City announced its beaches would close on Wednesday and Thursday.

Hurricane Erin is still headed north, slowly powering up the Atlantic. While on average a hurricane moves at 15 to 20 mph, Erin, a Category 4 storm, has been moving at 10 mph, sometimes slower, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Hurricane Erin is on track to stay offshore but still bring dangerous rip currents to New York and New Jersey beaches.
