HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Federal and wildland firefighters are battling a brush fire on Schofield Barracks in Central Oahu. Officials said the fire first broke out at 6 p.m. Sunday at one of the ranges on base. As of 2 p.m. Monday, officials said the fire was 40-percent contained.
KAHIKINUI, Hawaii (Island News) – The second day of the ongoing Kahikinui brush fire has been mapped at approximately 330 acres on Monday, according to the Maui Fire Department (MFD). The fire was contained to 93% as of 7 p.m. and Officials lifted evacuation orders as well due to the increased fire containment.
The Maui Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) issued evacuation orders for homes near Mile Markers 24 and 25, with approximately 105 Kahikinui homestead lots in the area. Door-to-door evacuations were also conducted by Maui Police Department and MFD, according to an official update.
