Jones missed the first game of the season, a home loss to the Detroit Lions, before signing a one-year deal. In March 2024, Jones agreed to a five-year contract worth $158.75 million. Jones said Smith didn’t seek out his advice about negotiating, and it sounded like Jones might not have been in a sharing mood even if he had.

Jones, always down for a good laugh and known for his transparency, was in top form on Tuesday when asked about right guard Trey Smith’s ongoing contract negotiations. Unlike 2023, when Jones had his own contract dispute and held out until Week 2 of the regular season, Smith was in attendance at minicamp.
