Carlos Alcaraz has claimed his rivalry with Jannik Sinner is bringing new fans to tennis. But the Spaniard superstar admitted his contests with the Italian world No.1 cannot yet be compared to the battles between the Big Three - or Bjorn Borg against John McEnroe.
Alcaraz beat Sinner over five sets in the French Open semifinals last year. Alcaraz then successfully defended his Wimbledon title for his fourth Grand Slam trophy. Sinner has won only one of his 19 career titles on clay, in Umag, Croatia, in 2022 — when he beat Alcaraz in the final.
But on the eve of the year’s second major, it feels like the balance of power within tennis has shifted again. Sinner’s return has almost emboldened Alcaraz, taken the weight off his shoulders and enabled him to play freely. Like all great rivals, they push each other to be better.
The French Open returns to Roland Garros for 2025, with a tough draw for Iga Świątek and a kinder one for Carlos Alcaraz.
Spanish tennis great Rafael Nadal accused Netflix of approaching their Carlos Alcaraz documentary ‘in the wrong way’.
Carlos Alcaraz is clearly the favorite for the French Open. Top-ranked Jannik Sinner is back from his doping ban though and building himself back up to full strength day by day.
