Google is trying to put the brakes on a court ruling requiring the company to open up its Play Store to third-party app stores. Earlier this month, Judge James Donato ruled in a California US District Court that the company has an illegal monopoly with its Google Play Store on Android devices.

Google LLC asked a federal appeals court Wednesday to lift a California judge’s order that it must open its app store to rivals, saying the court’s Nov. 1 deadline to implement some of the changes imperils the system’s security.

The company says the imminent deadline to implement changes gives it little time to try to mitigate ‘serious risks.’
